Awanish Chauhan is a maritime professional and Second Officer in the Merchant Navy with practical experience in navigation, watchkeeping, cargo handling and deck management. During his time at sea, he saw that many maritime study materials were either spread across different sources or written in a way that was unnecessarily difficult for seafarers to use in practice.

Based on this experience, Awanish created the 2ND MATE FG (All-in-One) book - a structured maritime reference designed for the deck department.

Rules of the Road Cards

The set contains 392 visual cards across eight categories and is designed to help seafarers recognise COLREG situations visually rather than relying only on memorisation. The cards include navigation lights, day signals, buoys and marks, International Code of Signals flags and vessel-encounter scenarios.

Each card is built around a simple approach: see the situation, identify what it means and understand the appropriate action. The collision-situation cards also help practise identifying give-way and stand-on vessels, assessing risk of collision and determining the applicable COLREG rule.
